and that tank can be repaired and painted also. its not that expensive just a pain of a process then matt clear the chrome if you can find a good bodyshop
Brian, you know shops that do this process?
I respectfully disagree that it won’t be expensive, I’ve been involved in refinish my entire working life from shop floor to manufacturer to R&D.
A good “regular” bodyshop cannot follow this process, they’re not geared up for it. I’m sure there are specialists but none that I’m currently aware of.
The matt clear is not an issue, I can paint that easily at our facility but matching the correct chrome effect basecoat is the problem, a twin feed double air cap spray gun is not exactly common (see YouTube link)
I did 12 years with Sikkens Car Refinish in technical (Akzo Nobel) and never saw this process, not even at head office in Sassenhiem so I really don’t think you will easily find someone to repair to the OEM standard.
However as I’ve never looked into it I could (hopefully) very be wrong, I know shops that apply custom effects that potentially follow a similar process.
Good luck on the repair but if it were mine it would be an insurance claim or I’d be biting the bullet and ordering a new tank
