I had big issues with my hips ( operations and waiting for another) yet I don't find the position that bad. I'm 6ft 2" and no small either

And welcome

I often find this with any new bike, simply because the bars/seat/footrests relationship is different. After a few rides my body gets used to the new position and I'm no longer aware of it.

Perseverance may be a better solution than modifying and don't forget that lowering the footrests by any amount decreases the ground clearance in a corner.
