Let's talk helmets.

First I want to say that I am an Arai person and just love their helmets, I have 6 of them and feel they are the best. And every other brand I have tried, I ended up hating.

BUT I would like a helmet with a drop down sun visor, and something quieter because I go on long rides, sometimes up to 400 miles. I can't wear earplugs, my ears ache after an hour and no matter what I have tried they are just painful.

That being said I have been looking at the Scorpion EXO ST1400 Carbon helmet. It is getting some very good reviews, they say the quality is great, the fit is good and it has bladders to adjust the fit. They also say it is fairly quiet, decent ventilation, light and it has a sun visor. And it isn't all that expensive considering the quality.

So has anyone here tried it, or know someone who has one? If so, what is your opinion?

Ted, this is a real nice carbon helmet, with all the features it has, and the pricing, it's worth adding it to your helmet collection. I love the pull down visor and design of the helmet. Just purchased a NEXX Carbon Zero, so I am a ways off in getting another helmet.

Actually, it is very good at keeping out wind noise, too bad there isn't a better way to try out a helmet prior, in order to determine if you really want to purchase it or not!

So far it has been impossible. But I do try. Not that I want to ditch Arai. I just want some features that Arai doesn't offer. Arai's only real downfall is noise.

My perfect lid for my H2 Carbon. On paper the weight savings are minimal, but the difference when riding is night and day.

Well, I pulled the trigger on the Scorpion and it was delivered the next day by RevZilla. Went for a short ride with it and I am not really impressed.

It fits well with the exception that the top liner hits the top of my ears and it may be uncomfortable after a few hours.
The shield sucks. Nasty ratcheting thing that has distortions at the very top.
The drop down shield works well but is not optically correct. It is not unbearable but.....
Air comes in around the ears and is distracting, I'm sure you could get used to it, but again.....
It is no quieter than an Arai Corsair. Which is the main reason I got it, so that is a bust.
It is very light and the materials seem to be of good quality.

It is a decent helmet for the price, as a matter of fact a great helmet for the price, but it ain't no Arai.
